Correct orientation of the head gasket is essential.
 
The COPPER SIDE MUST FACE UP towards the cylinder head.

Installation Notes
Before fitting a new cylinder head gasket:
Thoroughly clean the cylinder block and cylinder-head mating surfaces
Check the cylinder head for flatness, corrosion or damage
Ensure all head stud and bolt threads are clean and in serviceable condition
Install the gasket with the copper side facing upwards
Follow the correct A-Series cylinder-head tightening sequence and torque specifications
Check and adjust valve clearances as required after assembly
 
Important Fitment Information
Many Classic Minis and Mokes have had replacement engines, cylinder heads or performance modifications fitted during their lifetime.
 
Always confirm that the engine is actually a 1275cc A-Series unit and that this gasket is appropriate for the cylinder head and block combination before installation.
