Genuine Classic Mini Rubber Cone Spring – Dunlop Type – Metric Thread
Genuine rubber cone spring manufactured using the original tooling and engineering drawings supplied by Dunlop and Rover, built to the correct factory specifications used on production Classic Minis from 1959–2000.
These genuine cones were fitted to every Mini variant produced on the assembly line and supplied as official replacement parts throughout the Mini’s production life.
Designed from the revolutionary suspension concepts developed by Alex Moulton in the 1950’s, the Mini rubber cone suspension system became one of the defining characteristics of the Classic Mini’s handling and ride quality.
Genuine Product Features
- Manufactured to original Dunlop/Rover specifications
- Correct rising-rate spring characteristics
- Patent number 763432 stamped into the rubber
- Rubber bonded to metal as per original factory design
- Correct machined ride height specifications
- Metric threaded top cup nut (post March 1976 specification)
- Manufactured in the UK
- Suitable for all Classic Mini variants
Unlike many aftermarket copies, these genuine cones are engineered to maintain the correct ride height and spring rate under load, ensuring proper suspension geometry, ride comfort, and handling performance.
Important Information
Rubber cone springs naturally deteriorate over time due to age, heat cycles, and use. As the rubber hardens and sags, ride height can reduce significantly, negatively affecting handling and suspension performance.
Symptoms of worn cones include:
- Sagging ride height
- Harsh suspension feel
- Poor handling characteristics
- Uneven vehicle stance
For best results:
Replace in axle pairs
Inspect regularly on older vehicles
Recommended replacement intervals vary depending on climate and usage
Technical Notes
Measured at the wheel under static load:
- Front spring rate: Approx. 118 lb/in
- Rear spring rate: Approx. 98 lb/in
At full bump:
Front load: Approx. 1,050 lb
Rear load: Approx. 670 lb
Anything without the original Patent No. 763432 moulded into the rubber is not considered a genuine Dunlop-type cone spring.
These are Sold individually.
We strongly recommend replacing them in axle pairs for balanced suspension performance.
