Upgrade or replace the thermostat housing on your Classic Mini Cooper with this large-bore thermostat housing, designed for applicable carburettor-equipped Cooper models.
 
Featuring an approximately 32mm (1.250") outlet, this larger-bore housing can also be a useful cooling-system upgrade for Classic Minis operating in hot climates, where maintaining efficient coolant circulation is particularly important.

Metro-Type Design
This style of thermostat housing was also used on applicable Metro applications.
 
On Metro installations, the small auxiliary outlet was drilled through to provide a coolant connection to the expansion tank. On this Classic Mini version, the small outlet remains blanked and undrilled.
 
Special Large-to-Standard Bore Hose Required
 
Because this housing has a larger approximately 32mm outlet, it requires the appropriate stepped radiator hose.
 
The correct hose has:
Large-bore end to fit the thermostat housing
Standard-size end to fit the normal Classic Mini radiator outlet
 
A standard same-diameter radiator hose may therefore not be suitable.
 
Hot Climate Upgrade
The larger outlet can be particularly useful as part of a properly maintained Classic Mini cooling system in hot-climate conditions, including Australian summer driving.
 
Cooling performance, however, also depends on the condition and specification of the radiator, water pump, thermostat, hoses, fan and the overall engine setup.
 
Important Fitment Information
Before ordering, check the existing thermostat housing, radiator and top hose arrangement.
 
The small auxiliary pipe is blanked off as supplied and should not be assumed to provide a functioning coolant outlet without appropriate modification.
