How Does It Work?
The vehicle's fuel pump electrical circuit incorporates an Inertia Fuel Shut-Off (IFS) Switch.
In the event of a sufficiently severe impact or sudden deceleration, the switch activates and interrupts the electrical circuit supplying the fuel pump.
 
This stops the pump from continuing to deliver fuel to the engine, helping reduce the risk of fuel leakage and associated fire hazards following an accident.
 
Classic Mini Installation Location
On applicable fuel-injected Classic Mini models, the inertia switch is located:
Inside the engine compartment
On the passenger side
Attached to the bonnet switch mounting bracket
 
How to Reset the Inertia Switch
If the switch has been activated, the fuel pump circuit must be restored before the engine can restart.
Ensure the vehicle is safe and there are no signs of fuel leakage or damage.
Switch off the ignition.
Locate the inertia switch inside the engine compartment.
Press the rubber reset button on top of the switch.
Attempt to restart the engine only after confirming it is safe.
 
Important: Never reset the inertia switch following an accident until the fuel system has been inspected for damage or leaks.
