A carburettor needle should not be selected solely by engine capacity or camshaft duration.
The correct needle profile depends on the complete engine specification, including:

Compression ratio

Inlet manifold

Ignition setup
Other engine modifications
 
For this reason, the BDL should be regarded as a tuning starting point rather than a guaranteed final needle specification for every modified engine.
 
For best results, final mixture should be checked and adjusted using appropriate tuning equipment, preferably including air/fuel ratio measurement or rolling-road tuning.
